Biography

Mercedes Lynn Williams is an alumnus of Point Park University, receiving her undergraduate degree in Public Administration with a concentration in non-profit management and a dual master’s degree in communication and business. She has devoted much of her professional career towards civic engagement and advancing quality and equitable education for disadvantaged children in Pittsburgh, PA.

Working in the non-profit sector for over ten years, Mercedes has gained progressive experience in program management, program development, strategic planning, event planning, and community organizing. Her background includes leadership positions for political figures and non-profit organizations, i.e., Hill District Community Development Corporation, Hill Youth Partnership for Enrichment, WQED Multimedia, State Representative Jake Wheatley, and Dwan Walker—Mayor of the City of Aliquippa. She has served on several advisory committees, making decisions that positively impact children’s education and the overall quality of life for families of Pittsburgh.

Mercedes’ skillset is unique and goes beyond her civic engagement profession. She is also passionate about personally developing talents in the art of creative writing, storytelling, Afro-folkloric dance, and more. As of late, she has been extending her services as a consultant for several clients, providing arts management and creative services from the styles and skillset previously mentioned. Clients such as DEMASKUS Theater Collective, where she is proud to be the Director of Business Development and Grantmaking while also getting the opportunity to express her artistic ingenuity.

Mercedes uses her spare time in her family’s company outside of her profession and consultant services, reading African-American history and various sciences, taking lessons in diverse dance genres, and traveling and participating in adventurous endeavors. She often shares her interests and experiences to inspire youth to look at life as an abundant gift of opportunities and that, at any time, you can enrich your life through your thoughts and self-determination.
